We are pleased to announce that Dr. Robert Yoshiyuki Osamura, a pathologist, has been appointed as the Academic Advisor of CYBO.

Dr. Osamura has served as president of various academic societies, including the International Academy of Pathology (IAP), the International Academy of Cytology (IAC), the Japanese Society of Pathology, and the Japanese Society of Clinical Cytology, contributing significantly to the global advancement of the field of cytopathology. CYBO aims to leverage his expertise and experience in the digitalization of cytology and the development of AI solutions, with the goal of creating innovative products that will be widely adopted in medical fields worldwide.

■Comments from Dr. Robert Yoshiyuki Osamura

The recent advancements in the field of digital WSI (digital cytology) and the introduction of AI, along with its integration with genomic medicine, have brought remarkable changes and rapid progress, even from the perspective of pathologists and cytologists. Globally, the application of digital cytology is being explored across various fields, with many initiatives pushing toward product commercialization. One key factor to consider when digitizing cytology specimens is addressing cell adhesion and overlapping issues. CYBO's technology, which scans densely overlapping cell clusters in 40 layers to capture the optimal cellular image, along with the development of AI based on these images, is highly anticipated both domestically and internationally. As CYBO's Academic Advisor, I have high expectations for the intelligence, technology, and application capabilities of the CYBO team, aiming to realize digital cytology that can fully leverages the skills and diagnostic capabilities of cytotechnologists and cytopathologists.

Profile

After graduating from Keio University School of Medicine, Dr. Osamura immediately went to the United States, where he completed his pathology residency and research fellowship at the University of Colorado Medical Center. He then completed a clinical fellowship in surgical pathology at Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan. After obtaining the American Board of Pathology (ABP) certification, he returned to Japan and served as a professor of pathology and vice dean at Tokai University School of Medicine. In addition to being an expert in pathological diagnosis, which is essential for accurate treatment, he passionately dedicated himself to mentoring the next generation. Currently, he is the head of the Department of Pathological Diagnosis at Nippon Kokan Hospital, where he is engaged in histopathological and cytological diagnosis.
